About the Placement Examination
All incoming first-year students will be required to take the University Placement Exams as part of the enrolment process. Proper placement in the critical courses of reading, writing, and math helps to ensure student success and allows you to advance more quickly to your degree goals.
Placement Exam is required before you can enroll in any writing and or math class at the Associate Degree Level. You will be required to take the exam if you:
- Do not match the passing criteria outlined in the table below. Students with less than thirty-five (35) in Math and sixty (60) in English in the ATLIB Exams are required to sit the placement exam.
- Completed the ATLIB EXAM more than 5 years ago.
- Do not provide official ATLIB scores for admissions.

Program Coordinator
Meet Thyra Arana, our dedicated English and Math Placement Examination Coordinator at the University of Belize since 2016. With a passion for education and student success, Thyra ensures a smooth examination process for all candidates.
Thyra is responsible for the scheduling, administering, and logistics of the computer-based placement examinations. She ensures compliance with institutional policies and supports students throughout the process. Most importantly, Thyra understands the challenges and opportunities in computer-based academic assessments.
Thyra has improved the efficiency and reliability of our placement exams by implementing an online registration system, enhancing test security with proctored exams, and increasing student satisfaction through personalized support.
Thyra is known for her approachable and student-centered method and is committed to fairness and accessibility in the examination process.
